This is the first game I've ever tried to speedrun. I'm 26 years old now, and I've owned the game for Super Nintendo since before I was able to understand all the words in this sentence. Needless to say, it's got a special place in my heart, especially now. :)

I hope you'll enjoy it!

Level One

Overall very solid. I got hit once during the platforming stage, in the spot where I most often get hit. Very nice boss pathing on this run. You can lose a chunk of time if he charges at you with 1 health left, but this was a quick and clean kill.

Level Two

I am really quite pleased with this on a rewatch. Rolling off the first ledge onto the water spout was something which I only just realized right before I did it in this run would be faster than jumping onto the pterodactyl, which I'd been doing. Getting to the next part quicker enabled me to perform normal jumps (instead of slower super jumps) over all three fish, which I don't think I had ever managed prior to this run. Then the boss is a piece of cake as you can see. This time can be slightly trimmed by doing less jumping and more running, but with zero mistakes I'm tickled to death here.
Sidenote: It's possible to get the wheels (the "~25% chance at the beginning of level 4 or your run is dead" weapon) from the egg in the beginning of this stage, but it's not worth it since the wheels comparitavely don't save you any time until level 4 anyway. Maybe worth it in a race scenario to increase your odds of getting them.

Level Three

I've enjoyed perfecting this level. Took a hit here, but it happened in the best place you want to get hit on this level, in my opinion. Often you won't be able to get past the bee hive in time to avoid taking a second hit from one of them. I've never scienced it enough to check for sure whether going up without taking a bee hit is faster. It involves taking a slightly wider path. The boss kill has been done faster, but I got none of his bad rng moves here so I was able to bring him down very quickly.

Level Four

The game's anti-speedrun level. Not only is the pace set for you, but if you lose your RNG on the opening egg, the run is basically over because the wheels save serious time against the boss, and they're extremely useful for clearing enemies quickly during later platforming portions. Not much to say about the level itself, but this boss kill was glorious. I think it's my best ever. With bad luck and a mistake or two, or if you miss the wheels and do it with fire, this fight easily lasts 20+ seconds longer. That is being conservative.
Sidenote: The egg that I deliberately don't crack open takes you off to an optional bonus stage which is nothing but a waste of time for speedrunning purposes.

Level Five

My entire life I've been playing this game, and even in my best run ever I get hit by the same pattern of falling rocks. Doesn't matter really since no time is lost. The run would have been over if the boss had managed to descend into the water a second time, which he very nearly did. The next move is unbelievely slow and tedious and it throws something like 15 seconds onto the run. I can almost always get him on the first round, this one was a little bad luck and me being just a hair slow to react. The previous several runs he had done a different move first which allows more time to hit him.

Level Six

The platforming went pretty smoothly. The one time I took damage it was because I was trying to super jump to get a little farther, but accidentally did a regular jump. This boss is probably the toughest for a speedrun. He can change directions quickly and dodge your wheels, and the tusk is a little OP if I'm being honest. I actually never knew until this run that you could be hurt by the trunk as it was falling off him.

Level Seven

This level is actually easier than the earlier level which it mimics. The boss can be much more annoying than the green pterodactyl, though. Everything he does, he then repeats the opposite way, so you get two of everything. Sometimes that means he'll just dive back and forth for about 10 seconds without letting you hit him.
Sidenote: It's funny to me, the reason I miss him with the wheel on my first shot is I'm more accustomed to doing it with fire, which goes higher. For a little while during my training I would finish every run I started, which usually resulted in having the fire, so there is some room for improvement in my wheel game.

Level Eight

One time in this level I should have done a normal jump instead of a super jump, and I stopped short of the falling dinosaur I tried to kill with the up-throw near the end. A couple stray wheels during this boss, but a perk of being able to toss out two (as opposed to the limit of one fire) is that little time is lost for misses. Not disappointed with the level, but it could be perfected more.

Level Nine

Without a doubt the weakest level in the run, in my opinion. It pains me a little to watch, if only for the fact that this is normally a stage I have down to a science. This is where nerves kicked in because I knew I was on track for a really good time. We just won't talk about the boss. It's a drag.

Level Ten

DID YOU SEE HOW FAR I RODE THAT ROLLING NEANDERTHAL NERD! I had only just realized running on top of the cave men like this was possible earlier in the week, and I hadn't practiced opening the level like that whatsoever. Just a lucky-as-all-get-out thing to have happen during what was already a really solid run. The speed I got from running on the rolling dude actually threw me off a little, but didn't cause much harm. I just could have jumped a little more effectively around the birds, and not taken damage from a boulder. When it comes to this boss: stand underneath him.

Level Eleven

This was a smooth one. I am pretty sure running across the lava is faster than jumping on the birds near the end, even with it pausing you for a second for damage here and there. I embarrassingly got hit multiple times by not getting all the way into the corner during the boss fight. Fortunately, that's a no-time-lost error.

Level Twelve

I probably didn't need to wait for the health to spawn at the beginning, but I hadn't ever really been in this sort of situation before so I wasn't thinking clearly I guess. A couple seconds could definitely be saved running across the rolling cave dudes. Fighting the dark mini-boss...things...went smoothly, maybe a second or two lost from an optimal time but I'm pretty pleased.

Red Boss

Excellent RNG made up for my nerves getting to me. He didn't do his worst move at all, and I was able to just keep getting hits in.

Blue Boss

Holy moly, I may never get this amazing RNG on this fight again, which is a shame. The move where he makes two rings that go around the edges of the stage one after the other is his worst move, and he usually does it more than he did here. On top of that, the majority of the time it seemed like he was just teleporting right on top of me. I took some hits, but can't really complain much here.
